LightSquared, the Reston, Va.-based company that has proposed to build a national broadband wireless network, said Monday it may take legal action if the Federal Communications Commission denies it permission to build the network.
The FCC has said it will not approve the LightSquared network unless well-documented GPS interference problems are solved.
Jeffrey Carlisle, LightSquared’s vice president of regulatory affairs and public policy, told reporters Monday the company is working with the GPS industry to resolve the issues.
“If it is impossible to get a decision on this that allows us to go forward, I think our way forward is pretty clear, that we then have to insist on our legal rights,” Carlisle said. “If you have to be the bad guy, and go out and start … insisting on your property line, well, then that’s what we’ll do.”
Carlisle sent a letter to FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski Monday, saying the GPS industry has ignored government standards in the development of receivers.
