The Internal Revenue Service is the latest agency to offer its employees buyouts and early retirements, according to a report from Federal News Radio.

IRS Commissioner Doug Shulman said in a statement buyouts will be offered to employees whose positions do not involve “direct service or enforcement interactions with taxpayers.”

Shulman also said the outlook on the budget for fiscal year 2012 is challenging and that more than 90 percent of the agency’s budget is related to employee expenses. He added that a second round of buyouts to more employees is in the agency’s future. Those buyouts to employees include those who work with taxpayer services.
