Telework will now be seen as normal operating procedure for employees of the General Services Administration.

GSA signed off on a new telework policy Monday, with GSA Administrator Martha Johnson saying the agency is “assuming people can telework,” according to a report from Federal News Radio.

“We’re assuming mobile work, telework is in your life, not out of your life, and working it that way rather than making the justification in the other direction,” Johnson said.

With permission from supervisors, GSA employees would be able to work from home full-time. Employees can lose their privileges if they are absent without leave for more than five days in a year or if they use government computers to exchange pornography.

Johnson expects the policy to be modified in the next two years as the government adapts to mobile work, according to GovExec reports. Managers will decide which few employees will not be able to telework, such as those running the agency’s child care center, Johnson said.
