Kathleen S. Tighe, the current inspector general for the Education Department, has been appointed to chair the Recovery Accountability and Transparency Board according to a White House statement Friday.

Current chairman Earl Devaney announced his retirement earlier this month and will officially step down on Dec. 31.

The RATB was formed through the stimulus package passed in 2009. Its primary focus is to track the spending of stimulus funds and allows for reporting of potential waste, fraud, and abuse. The board also manages Recovery.gov, a site intended to allow citizens to follow how stimulus funds are spent.

Tighe began serving as inspector general for the Education Department in March 2010. Prior to her current position, she was deputy inspector general for the Agriculture Department. From 1995-2000, she served in the General Services Administration as counsel to the inspector general.
