GSA Announces Energy Retrofit Project for 30 Federal Buildings

1 min read

The General Services Administration has launched a project challenging private energy service companies to improve energy efficiency at 30 federal buildings, Fedccoop reports.

GSA’s Deep Retrofit Challenge is in response President Obama’s Dec. 2, 2011 memorandum on energy savings projects.

The president directed agencies to award at least $2 billion in energy performance savings contracts over the next two years.

Obama said federal agencies must fully implement energy conservation measures in federal buildings with a payback time of less than 10 years.

GSA will work to calculate which energy saving methods are most efficient through risk management, technology adoption and process improvements.

The agency will also share that knowledge with other agencies and the private sector.
