VA, EPA Promoting Water Industry Careers For Vets

The Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Veterans Affairs are working to connect veterans with disabilities to water and wastewater sector career opportunities, the EPA and VA announced Wednesday.

State and local VA counselors will work with the EPA and the VA’s vocational rehabilitation and employment program to promote jobs related to the water industry.

Educational programs that will better prepare veterans for careers in the water industry related field.

Nancy Stoner, acting assistant administrator for the EPA’s water office, said in the release that the project is intended to meet a predicted increase in workforce demand within the water and wastewater industries.

The Labor Department estimates employment for water and wastewater operators will grow 20 percent from 2008 to 2018, according to the release.

More than one-third of the current water operator workforce is eligible to retire within seven years.

Opportunities in this field include engineering, operations, maintenance, management, administration, laboratory and water science, communications and public education.
