OFPP Admin Joe Jordan Highlights Communication, Acquisition Workforce As Priorities

1 min read

Joe Jordan, administrator of the Office of Federal Procurement Policy, recently shared three of his top contracting priorities during a breakfast with the contracting community last Thursday, GovExec reports.

Buying smarter, building relationships with government suppliers and strengthening the acquisition workforce were his principal focuses, Charles S. Clark reported.

Jordan highlighted strategic sourcing as one way for the government to leverage its buying power.

The General Services Administration uses strategic sourcing to acquire office supplies, moving 76 percent of  contract dollars to small businesses and potentially saving $250 million by 2013, Jordan said.

His second priority is improving communication between agencies and contractors, adding that he has seen increased understanding from vendors but not as much from agencies.

Jordan said he is working with agency chief information officers to improve agency-contractor communication, according to the report.

Jordan’s third priority includes incorporating program managers and post-award contract officer representatives into acquisition processes, not contracting officers, according to GovExec.

Nearly two-thirds of the government’s 36,000 contracting officers work in the Pentagon.

Jordan said acquisition workforce recruiting is focused on looking for college graduates to put them in training with the Federal Acquisition Institute and the Defense Acquisition University.
