According to a VA release, Shinseki set a goal of 12 percent for veteran-owned small businesses.
The Small Business Administration found in a recent scorecard that the VA, by six times, exceeded the SBA’s goal for service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses.
Shinseki set the departmentâs 2012 SDVOB goal at 10 percent.
Under Public Law 109-461, the VA is obligated to reserve first and second priority to SDVOSB and VOSB for contracts and awards.
During a conference last week, Shinseki announced supplementary procedures to continue the VAâs support for veteran-owned businesses.
First, senior executives and senior contracting executives will review contracts that are not awarded to veteran-owned small businesses.
Also, small business performance metrics will be included in all senior executive performance evaluations and the VA will establish small business procurement goals at all senior executive levels.
Individual responsibilities will also be included in the goals.
