Ashton Carter Pays Visit to F-16 Intl School

Deputy Defense Secretary Ashton Carter visited the 162nd Fighter Wing at Tucson International Airport Wednesday as part of his travel itinerary in the region, American Forces Press Service reports.

According to the story by Air Force Lt. Col. Christine Rhodes, Carter met with students and exchange pilots in an international F-16 training program from Iraq, Singapore, Japan, Denmark, Poland, South Korea, Norway and the Netherlands.

Lockheed Martin‘s F-16 has been the subject of recent foreign military sales activity, including a $199 million sale to Iraq and another $835 million agreement with the country for 16 of the jets.

The U.S. and Taiwan were reportedly close to signing a $600 million sales agreement in June.

Arizona Air National Guardsmen train more than 70 international student pilots per year through programs ranging from initial F-16 training, qualifying new pilots and an advanced weapons course, according to AFPS.
