Leon Panetta

Over the past year, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta has addressed the potential threat of sequestration cuts on the Pentagon and how he sees the cuts preventing the country from having a strong defense.

According to Stars and Stripes, the last question at a recent press conference asked him if he would support a short-term deal in Congress to head off the cuts.

Reporter Joyce Shai quotes Panetta as saying he will “take whatever the hell deal they can make right now,” then laughing some.

He told reporters lawmakers have left it to a lame duck session for making a deal on the cuts, along with addressing other fiscal issues after the election.

Congress recently passed a six-month continuing resolution, extending government funding through March.
