Veterans Affairs Chief Information Officer Roger Baker recently said he does not have the authority to determine if data plans for the VA’s bring-your-own-device strategy can be reimbursed, Fierce Government IT reports.

According to Molly Bernhart Walker’s story, he told reporters those are mainly human resource and business functions, adding his office’s lead responsibility is to guarantee the security of devices and the applications to be installed in it.

After the VA awards its mobile device management contract, Baker hopes the VA can accommodate more than 100,000 devices, according to the report.

Procedures for BYOD implementation and purchasing of mobile devices will be left within the responsibility of each business unit of the VA, he said.

The department opened its internal networks to Apple devices in October.
