Navy Rear Adm. Sean Filipowski has been assigned director of intelligence for the U.S. Cyber Command, the Defense Department announced Tuesday.

The nearly three-decade veteran currently serves as deputy director of operations for the Fort Meade, Md.-based Cybercom.

According to the Navy, his shore assignments have included service at the National Security Agency, Naval Network Warfare Command and as director for electronic and cyber warfare for the OPNAV Information Dominance Staff.

He entered the Navy as a submarine strategic weapons system officer in 1982 and was re-designated a special duty officer in cryptology, now known as information warfare officer in 1987.

Filipowski has commanded both the U.S. Naval Security Group Activity Yokosuka, Japan and the Navy Information Operations Command Georgia.

Army Maj. Gen. Jennifer Napper joined Cybercom in June as director of plans and policy, moving over from her command post at the Army Network Enterprise Technology Command.
