Deputy Labor Secretary Seth Harris has stepped in to lead the Labor Department on an acting basis upon Secretary Hilda Solis’ departure, Fedscoop reports.

Harris rejoined the department in May 2009 in his current capacity, three months after being nominated by President Barack Obama.

During the Clinton administration, Harris served for seven years as counselor to the secretary and then as acting assistant secretary for policy under the tenures of secretaries Robert Reich and Alexis Herman.

In between stints at DOL, he served as a law professor at New York Law School and led the school’s labor and employment law programs.

While at the school, Harris was also a senior fellow at the United Cerebral Palsy Association’s Life Without Limits Project and a member of the National Advisory Commission on Workplace Flexibility.
