McDonnell, O’Malley Warn Of Sequestration Job Losses

BobMcDonnellTens of thousands of jobs in Maryland and Virginia are at stake as a result of $85 billion in automatic budget cuts under sequestration, the states’ respective governors said in an interview Sunday.

The Washington Examiner reports Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley and Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell appeared together on CBS’ “Face the Nation” to warn federal officials of potential effects on state’s economy.

O’Malley told hostMajor Garrett the cuts could set back “hard-fought” job gains in both states.

McDonnell said the cuts would impact Virginia more than any other state due to its dependence on military spending, Brian Hughes writes.

If fully implemented, sequestration would take away $1.2 trillion in spending over the next decade, the Examiner reports.
