WhiteHousePresident Obama and congressional leaders will meet Friday at the White House to discuss potential avenues for avoiding automatic across-the-board budget cuts under sequestration, ABC News reports.

The top four Republican and Democratic leaders of the House and Senate will head to the White House on the same day the cuts are scheduled to take effect.

Jonathan Karl reports White House is required to issue the order to start cutting sometime on March 1 between midnight and 11:59 p.m. Eastern time.

According to the Washington Post, this meeting will be the first between Obama and Capitol Hill leaders on the sequester.

Both sides want to resolve the battle by late March upon the expiration of a continuing resolution, Zachary A. Goldfarb and Mark Berman report for the Post.
