Deputy Defense Secretary Ashton Carter and Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano met with representatives of the Council of Governors Feb. 25 at the Pentagon to discuss issues surrounding cybersecurity and defense budget.
Napolitano explained the recent White House executive order on critical cybersecurity infrastructure and resiliency, American Forces Press Service reports.
Attendees agreed to cooperate and make cybersecurity a regular part of meeting agendas, according to the report.
Jim Garamone writes attendees also agreed to form a consultative process between the Pentagon and the states for budget decisions potentially affecting the National Guard.
The bipartisan council intends to help maintain the relationship of between the departments of Defense and Homeland Security, states and territories.
