Capitol_BuildingSome members of the Senate Appropriations Committee are considering a return to the omnibus approach as a way to pass a continuing resolution before March 27, the date of a potential government shutdown, Federal Times reports.

John Bennett writes an omnibus bill would combine several full-year agency spending bills into a single piece of legislation.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) tried using an omnibus bill in November 2011 in an attempt to get agency budget bills through Congress (click here for our previous coverage).

Appropriations Committee Chairwoman Barbara Mikulski (D-Md.) said a Senate mini-omnibus would include full fiscal 2013 funds for defense, according to Federal Times.

Bennett reports the committee could take up a mini-omnibus or full-omnibus measure next week.
