OPM Choosing Hiring Freeze Over Furloughs

EmptyOfficeFEMAThe Office of Personnel Management does not plan to place its employees on furloughs as a means to help manage the automatic cuts under sequestration, GovExec reports.

An agency spokesman told the website the agency instead plans to implement operational and administrative cost-cutting measures and a hiring freeze.

Kellie Lunney writes OPM joins the Government Accountability Office, Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Small Business Administration and Smithsonian as agencies not planning for furloughs.

OPM froze hiring last year in a move aimed at preparing for the sequester, Lunney writes.
