Dawn Meyerriecks, formerly deputy national intelligence director for acquisitions and technology, has joined the CIA as deputy director for science and technology, Wired reports.

Noah Shactman writes Meyerriecks developed an internal applications market for spies and analysts in her previous post and has promoted use of open software throughout the government.

Kevin Meiners will succeed Meyerriecks after several years of assisting the defense undersecretary for intelligence, according to Wired.

Between 2004 and 2006, she served as senior vice president for product technology at AOL and oversaw the relaunch of its website, instant messaging and open client platform.

Prior to AOL, Meyerriecks worked for nearly ten years at the Defense Information Systems Agency including as chief technology officer and technical director for the agency’s joint interoperability and engineering organization.

She was also a senior engineer and product manager at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory prior to DISA.
