Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz has approved a request to modify the agency’s management structure and reassign responsibilities of three undersecretary offices, Federal News Radio reported Thursday.

Melissa Dawkins writes the department established the Office of the Undersecretary for Science and Energy and consolidated that organization under the science undersecretary.

DOE aims for the new office to expedite the conversion of scientific discoveries into usable technologies.

The undersecretary for management and performance will also oversee a consolidated organization comprising of the current Offices of Environmental and Legacy Management, Dawkins reports.

President Barack Obama has nominated NASA Chief Financial Officer Beth Robinson as energy undersecretary for management and performance, Dawkins reports.
