Douglas Loverro: Pentagon Weighs Weather Satellite Program Options

1 min read

PentagonPentagon officials have begun examining requirements for a new weather satellite program and will incorporate some program funding in its fiscal year 2015 budget proposal, Reuters reported Thursday.

Deputy Assistant Defense Secretary Douglas Loverro told Reuters the U.S. Air Force and the Cost Assessment and Program Evaluation office are determining the program needs and funding.

Andrea Shalal-Esa writes interested contractors  include Northrop Grumman, Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Exelis and Moog.

Loverro told Reuters the Pentagon could allocate the $200 million to $300 million per unit for the satellites.

“There are many of us who believe that we will save money when we go to a more resilient architecture because we can use smaller satellites,” Loverro said to Reuters.
