House to Vote on Continuing Resolution for Gov Funding

Capitol_BuildingLawmakers in the House of Representatives plan to meet this week to vote on a bill to extend government funding and avert an Oct. 1 shutdown, Government Executive reported Monday.

Eric Katz writes Republican Leader Eric Cantor, R-Va., released his weekly legislative activities calendar which includes the continuing resolution on the docket.

The current spending authorization expires at the end of this month and Congress is scheduled to take another recess during the week of Sept. 23., according to the report.

A House Appropriations Committee spokesperson told GovExec the panel aims to release the measure’s details by Tuesday.

Katz reports the budget proposal will likely maintain current funding levels of most programs and be subject to sequester cuts.

The government faces $109 billion in spending cuts next fiscal year if Congress fails to come up with an alternative plan.

An aide for Sen. Barbara Milkulski told Government Executive the Senate Appropriations Committee will vote on the piece of legislation after it clears the House.
