Lawmakers Ask Pentagon to Reconsider Staff Cut Plan

1 min read

PentagonReps. Bill Young (R-Fla.) and Pete Visclosky (D-Ind.) have jointly requested that the Defense Department examine alternative options to cutting its workforce by 20 percent, GovExec reported Friday.

Eric Katz writes the lawmakers suggested to Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel in a letter that the Pentagon conduct a review to identify specific functions and contracts to terminate instead of pursuing an agency-wide staff cut.

Young and Visclosky, respective chairman and ranking member of the House Appropriations Defense Subcommittee, told Hagel DoD  is legally mandated to analyze and compare costs before hiring contractors replace civilian workers
