Mark Forman: Government Shutdown to Hit IT Systems

1 min read

Mark FormanThe consequences of a government shutdown could hit information technology operations harder than they did in previous shutdowns because today’s computer networks are more susceptible to cyber attacks, FedScoop reported Thursday.

Colby Hochmuth interviewed Mark Forman, federal chief information officer from 2001 to 2003, as saying that continuous monitoring of the architecture is one aspect of cloud computing that federal IT executives should disregard.

“Even though you’re not managing or using that application, if it’s reachable by the Internet it needs to be monitored and protected,” Forman said.

“Because of the nature of the networks and virtualization of these data centers, even if the application isn’t being run, if it’s accessible via the network the security needs to be maintained,” he added.
