The National Telecommunications and Information Administration is looking to distribute broadband grants to states with the goal of helping citizens gain access to government services online.NTIA’s State Broadband Initiative aims to help residents communicate with government leaders, pay taxes and fines online and obtain different types of government forms, the NTIA said Wednesday.
A nonprofit organization in Arkansas has used the broadband grant to help 17 counties develop and update websites for public service through the Connect Arkansas initative.
In West Virginia, various planning and development regions and public sector organizations are using grant funds to expand the government’s services online through the Technical Assistance Grant Program.
Fayette County, W.Va. has received two SBI grants to develop a website for residents to apply for structural permits and pay their taxes online.
