Pentagon Seeks Overseas Partners for R&D Initiatives

PentagonThe Defense Department wants to partner with other countries and foreign companies in an effort to further the agency’s research and development initiatives, Defense News reported Sunday.

Zachary Fryer-Biggs writes DoD is seeking to form the partnerships as U.S. companies have reduced their R&D spending.

Alan Shaffer, acting defense undersecretary for research and engineering, told a conference the agency intends to develop a science and technology research strategy with the goal of establishing a U.S. industrial base market and tapping new talent, according to the report.

“Sometimes we’ll go out and identify outstanding researchers in other countries,” Shaffer said.

Shaffer also told the audience DoD aims to step up research and development efforts within the agency’s industrial base, Defense News reports.
