Report: Senate Democrats Eye December to Cut Sequestration

1 min read

Capitol_BuildingDemocratic leaders in the Senate will push to nullify sequestration cuts in December as part of a mini-omnibus spending bill that would fund the government for fiscal year 2014, Defense News reported Monday.

John Bennett writes that Senate Democrats intend for that scenario to occur after the chamber passes a stopgap measure by Monday to fund the government through Dec. 15, which would replace the House’s bill that continues funding through Nov. 15.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and Barbara Mikulski (D-Md.) said Tuesday the Senate’s measure would eliminate language from the House’s bill that removes funding from the Affordable Care Act.

Mikulski and other Senate Democrats intend to address sequestration in the future mini-omnibus bill, Bennett reports.
