Navy Performs X-47B Flight Tests Aboard Roosevelt

121126-N-PL185-082The U.S. Navy flew the unmanned X-47B combat air system demonstrator over the weekend to test its ability to work in tandem with an aircraft carrier, CNet reported Monday.

The drone performed test maneuvers, landings and flight deck handling aboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt and mission operators monitored its progress using a mobile command and control unit.

Rear Adm. Mat Winter said in a statement that the concluded at-sea evaluation puts the Navy a step closer to its goal to equip aircraft carriers with drone capability, according to the report.
