Pentagon Announces Senior Executive Service Appointments and Reassignments

PentagonU.S. Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel has appointed an executive to the Senior Executive Service and assigned two members to other SES posts.

Marcel Lettre, formerly Hagel’s special assistant, joins the SES and will serve as principal deputy defense undersecretary for intelligence, the Defense Department announced Tuesday.

Alan Estevez will become principal deputy defense undersecretary for acquisition, technology and logistics after previously working as assistant defense secretary for logistics and materiel readiness.

DoD also announced that Margo Sheridan, previously a U.S. Coast Guard comptroller and director of financial operations, is the new director for financial improvement and audit readiness at the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense.

The Government Accountability Office has found that the U.S. Air Force intends to start fielding in fiscal 2020 new Combat Rescue Helicopters to replace aging HH-60G Pave Hawk helicopters that have recorded the most flight time when it comes to staff recovery missions. GAO said in a report published Thursday the service will initially deploy the new helicopters to the active component six years ahead of the reserve component and to the Air National Guard by 2027.
