National Guard Marks 377th Year in Service

national guardThe National Guard celebrated its 377th anniversary with an event held on Dec. 11 at the Rayburn House Office Building in Washington.

Sabre Systems Inc. was a sponsor of the celebration attended by Defense Department personnel, members of Congress and industry partners, Sabre said Dec. 13.

During the event, six of the National Guard’s Outstanding Soldiers and Airmen of the Year awardees cut the birthday cake using a replica of the sabre that Marquis de Lafayette received from the Continental Congress for his support during the American Revolution.

The National Guard currently has 461,796 service members and serves as the nation’s first line of defense, as well as supports troops during wars or national emergencies.
