She will oversee the branch’s criminal justice information services, laboratory and operational technology divisions, the FBI said Tuesday.
Her previous roles at FBI headquarters have included service as chief of the national security branch’s executive staff section, assistant inspector and team leader for the inspection division and section chief of the international operations division.
Hess became a special agent in 1991, later served as the first coordinator of the Louisville division’s Joint Terrorism Task Force and also acted as a principal firearms instructor there.
As the Phoenix division’s assistant special agent in charge, she was temporarily deployed as on-scene commander for the FBIâs counterterrorism operations in Afghanistan.
