General Services Administration chief Dan Tangherlini said Tuesday that the 2014 Consolidated Appropriations Act gives the agency $9.3 billion to build, maintain or repair public facilities.
The agnecy plans to spend more than $1 billion for maintenance work on the nation’s 9,000 federal buildings and almost $295 million for updates to border ports of entry, according to an agency release.
Tangherlini said GSA intends to help other agencies support economic and job growth in communities by investing in public buildings and shrinking the federal government’s real estate footprint.
GSA will also invest $70 million to consolidate space in existing government offices in an effort to save on rental and energy costs.
