Report: Obama to Mention Federal Contractor Pay Raise in State of the Union

Barack ObamaPresident Barack Obama will announce an executive order to raise the hourly minimum wage for certain federal contractor employees during his State of the Union speech Tuesday night, USA Today reports.

David Jackson and Aamer Madhani write the President will also urge Congress to pass legislation for an across-the-board increase in feds’ minimum wage to $10.10 during his address Tuesday night.

Jason Furman, a White House economic adviser, said Monday at an Economic Policy Institute event that a contractor salary hike order could include approximately 250,000 workers, according to the report.

Obama will also mention his administration’s efforts to stop discrimination against unemployed people, the newspaper reports.
