Rep. Howard “Buck” McKeon, who has chaired the House Armed Services Committee for the past three years, will not seek re-election after 11 terms, the Associated Press reported Wednesday.

Donna Cassata writes the California Republican is slated to formally announce his retirement at a press conference Thursday on Capitol Hill.

McKeon has been in Congress for more than two decades and has fought against spending cuts on defense programs, according to Cassata’s article.

AP reports that six Democrats and nine Republicans in the House of Representatives intend to step down at the end of their terms.
