Report: San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro to Be HUD Secretary Nominee

Department of Housing and Urban Development logoSan Antonio Mayor Julian Castro will be nominated to the secretary position at the Department of Housing and Urban Development, the New York Times reported Saturday.

Jonathan Martin and Peter Baker write that Castro has previously served as commissioner of housing preservation in New York City and is a former cabinet member in President Barack Obama’s administration.

Citing the San Antonio Express-News, the Times reports that Castro is going through the background vetting process and has been offered a cabinet position.

Castro’s third term as mayor of San Antonio ends next year, according to the Times.
