Sylvia Mathews Burwell’s nomination as health and human services secretary moved through the Senate Finance Committee Wednesday via a 21-3 vote to approve her for the post, Reuters reported Wednesday.
David Morgan writes eight Republicans and 13 Democrats voted for Burwell and three Republicans voted against her nomination.
Burwell faces a full vote in the Senate floor and that final confirmation vote could occur as early as this week and as late as June, according to the Reuters..
She would join HHS from the Office of Management and Budget, which she led for one year as director.
Morgan reports that one of Burwell’s primary tasks as HHS secretary, if confirmed, would be to oversee the implementation of the Affordable Care Act.
