VA Appoints Steve Young Interim Phoenix Health Care Director

Steve YoungSteve Young has assumed the top post at the Phoenix Veterans Affairs Health Care System on an interim basis and will oversee the medical care of some 85,000 veterans and an annual budget of $500 million, the VA said Friday.

The appointment takes effect Monday and he will lead a care facility that maintains sixoutpatient clinics in the greater Phoenix region.

Young joins the Phoenix system after almost five years as director of the Salt Lake City VA Health Care System.

He was also interim medical director for the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center in 2011 and has served as deputy network director for the VA Sunshine Healthcare Network in Florida.

The Government Accountability Office has found that the U.S. Air Force intends to start fielding in fiscal 2020 new Combat Rescue Helicopters to replace aging HH-60G Pave Hawk helicopters that have recorded the most flight time when it comes to staff recovery missions. GAO said in a report published Thursday the service will initially deploy the new helicopters to the active component six years ahead of the reserve component and to the Air National Guard by 2027.
