Carolyn Clancy Named Interim VA Health Undersecretary; Sloan Gibson Comments

Carolyn ClancyDr. Carolyn Clancy, who joined the Department of Veterans Affairs in August 2013, will assume the role of VA undersecretary for health in an interim capacity beginning July 2.

Acting VA Secretary Sloan Gibson said Wednesday that Clancy will lead agency efforts to expand veterans’ access to medical services as well as reduce waiting lists of veterans seeking treatment.

Clancy currently serves as the assistant deputy health undersecretary for quality, safety and value and directed the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality prior to joining the VA.

The VA also appointed Dr. Jonathan Perlin, president and chief medical officer at the Clinical Services for Hospital Corporation of America, to serve in a short stint as senior adviser to Gibson.

Will Gunn will step down as VA general counsel on July 3 and Tammy Kennedy, currently principal deputy general counsel, will assume Gunn’s duties on an acting basis.
