DISA, Laser Light Communications Form Optical Satcom Tech R&D Partnership

SatelliteAirForceGPSThe Defense Information Systems Agency and Laser Light Communications have agreed to research and develop a laser-based satellite technology that could be integrated with a terrestrial communications network.

DISA and LLC will explore potential applications of the company’s optical satcom platform through the cooperative agreement, LLC said Tuesday.

The company says the technology could potentially boost data transfer speeds as well as address spectrum allocation and mutual interference issues.

LLC, a Pegasus Global Holdings subsidiary, aims to be the first provider of all-optical satcom technology in the government and commercial markets.

GAO said in a report published Thursday the service will initially deploy the new helicopters to the active component six years ahead of the reserve component and to the Air National Guard by 2027.
