The Office of Science and Technology Policy recently held a workshop to discuss big data opportunities and challenges for the government, Fedscoop reported Monday.
Greg Otto writes officials from different federal agencies highlighted their respective strategies on how they leverage big data.
Rajive Mathur, director of online services at the Internal Revenue Service, said the IRS is examining how to help taxpayers gain access to their information in order to fulfill their tax liabilities under the Get Transcript program, according to the report.
Zach Goldstein, acting chief information officer at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association, also outlined how the NOAA plans to extract value from its own public-private partnership on big data, FedScoop reports.
“If I know that when this kind of weather pattern occurs and this kind of disease pattern occurs, then I can figure out that I need this kind of medical intervention to prepare for that,” Goldstein said.
