U.S. Army Gen. Daniel Allyn, head of Forces Command, has been nominated to succeed Gen. John Campbell as new vice chief of staff for the Army and will be subject to Senate confirmation, the Army Times reported Wednesday.
Michelle Tan writes that the nomination comes as the Army faces budget cuts and draws down forces from the Middle East.
Allyn has led FORSCOM for more than year and helped lead work to train and prepare support troops for combatant commanders abroad.
His background includes service as commander of the XVIII Airborne Corps and service in the 1st Cavalry Division the 2nd and 3rd Infantry divisions, the 82nd Airborne Division and the 75th Ranger Regiment.
Allyn has been deployed for military operations such as Operation Urgent Fury, Operation Desert Storm and Operation Enduring Freedom.
