Karin Appel to Lead Joint Information Environment Efforts in DoD CIO’s Office

DoD logo resizeKarin Appel, formerly a liaison to the Defense Department‘s chief information officer, has been appointed director of Joint Information Environment implementation at the office of the DoD CIO.

Appel will also become a member of the Senior Executive Service as part of the new role at the Pentagon, DoD said Thursday.

The JIE initiative across DoD functions to realign and modernize the department’s IT networks and systems to standardize their architecture and operations.

The office of the DoD CIO is one of the leads in the implementation of JIE as the department aims to address issues such as cyber threats, IT budget and edge in information operations.
