Andrea Palm, chief of staff at the Department of Health and Human Services, has been appointed to the additional role of senior counselor as HHS Secretary Sylvia Burwell aims to further bolster the department’s management team and service delivery.

“We’re continuing to build a strong team, and that includes retaining top talent,” Burwell said Thursday.

“I am pleased that she has agreed to take on this new role, working on issues that touch the lives of millions of Americans every day.”

Palm will continue to serve as chief of staff and collaborate with external partners and the department’s senior staff on developing strategic initiatives and service delivery systems to support HHS programs.

She has worked at least 15 years on public health, healthcare and human services and has helped the administration on activities relating to the food safety system, healthcare policy and public health insurance.

She previously served as acting assistant secretary for legislation and counselor to the public health and science secretary at HHS, member of the White House Domestic Policy Council and senior health policy advisor to then Senator Hillary Clinton.
