Former UnitedHealthcare Attorney Lucia Savage Named ONC Privacy Chief

Lucia Savage, formerly senior associate general counsel at health insurance firm UnitedHealthcare, will join the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology on Monday as the agency’s chief privacy officer, HealthITSecurity reported Tuesday.

Patrick Ouellette writes Savage succeeds Joy Pritts, who left the agency on June 12 after leading its privacy and security efforts for four and a half years.

Savage oversaw electronic health information exchanges as well as transparency and data-based innovation programs during her time at UnitedHealthcare.

She also worked on a multipayer claims database project when she was serving on the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services‘ governance board between 2011 and 2013.

She is also former general counsel of the Pacific Business Group on Health and benefits compliance officer for Stanford University.

Savage earned a bachelor’s degree from Mills College and her juris doctorate from New York University School of Law.
