DoD Undersecretary for Personnel & Readiness Jessica Wright Resigns

DoD logo resizeJessica Wright has resigned from her post as undersecretary of defense for personnel and readiness effective March 31, 2015, to pursue retirement after 40 years of public service.

The Defense Department said Thursday Wright, a retired major general in the Pennsylvania National Guard, assumed her current responsibilities in January 2013.

She initially served in an acting capacity before her confirmation to the full-time position in June.

“Thank you Jes for your service to this country and the many, many long and distinguished years that you have given to our nation,” said Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel.

The Government Accountability Office has found that the U.S. Air Force intends to start fielding in fiscal 2020 new Combat Rescue Helicopters to replace aging HH-60G Pave Hawk helicopters that have recorded the most flight time when it comes to staff recovery missions. GAO said in a report published Thursday the service will initially deploy the new helicopters to the active component six years ahead of the reserve component and to the Air National Guard by 2027.
