John Zangardi, acting Department of the Navy chief information officer, plans to review the agency’s information technology acquisition policies and strategies with an eye toward streamlining the process.

In an article published on the branch’s website, Zangardi says he is working with Navy and Marine Corps personnel to develop initiatives to simplify IT procurement across the branch and identify administrative areas that need improvement.

He also aims for the organization to address efficiency and technical issues by collaborating with industry.

“Making smart use of commercial services can enable the DON to improve responsiveness, productivity, and agility and to stay closer to the pace of advancements in technology,” he said.

He also seeks to implement a new program to address mobility requirements of naval services without spending too much.

Zangardi assumed the acting DON CIO role on Oct. 24 and will continue to serve as the Navy deputy assistant secretary for C4I/IO and space.
