NIST Unveils Cloud Service Metric Guide

CloudThe National Institute of Standards and Technology has released new guidance on how federal agencies can establish cloud computing metrics to determine the appropriate provider and service to invest in as they move to adopt cloud computing.

NIST said Dec. 15 that the Cloud Computing Service Metrics Description document proposes a model to develop metrics that have measurable requirements and clear definitions.

The agency noted that metrics must be understood by cloud service providers, customers and other stakeholders and can also be used to enforce service agreements and support the monitoring and auditing of services.

The new NIST guide is available for public comment through Jan. 24.
