Sean Filipowski Assigned as Senior Military Adviser for Cyber

Rear Adm. Sean Filipowski, director of the warfare integration directorate within the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations, has been assigned as senior military adviser for cyber to the defense undersecretary for policy.

Department of the  Navy Secretary Ray Mabus and Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Jonathan Greenert announced the assignment Monday.

Filipowski began his career as a submarine strategic weapons system officer of USS Nathanael Greene before he served in Submarine Squadron 18 and later was reassigned as a special duty officer for cryptology.

He also served as a division officer, assistant department head and executive officer for U.S. Naval Security Group Activity Misawa, Japan ,and as director for electronic and cyber warfare on the OPNAV information dominance staff.

Filipowski was also the director of operations and intelligence at the U.S. Cyber Command.

He held commander-in-chief roles for U.S. Pacific Fleet Staff, Carrier Group 7 staff, the Joint Special Operations Command and the U.S. 7th Fleet staff.
