Steve Jurczyk, formerly director of NASA‘s Langley Research Center, will begin work as associate administrator for the agency’s Space Technology Mission Directorate on March 2 and succeed Michael Gazarik, who has moved to Ball Aerospace & Technologies.

“It’s great to have Steve coming aboard to lead the technology and innovation engine of the agency,” Charles Bolden, NASA administrator, said Monday.

“Technology drives exploration, and under Steve’s leadership we’ll continue the president’s innovation strategy.”

Jurczyk joined the Langley center in 1988 and has since worked in the electronic systems branch of the aerospace electronic systems division, the flight systems unit of the systems engineering division and at the Research and Technology Directorate.

Dave Bowles, the Langley center’s deputy director under Jurczyk, will serve as acting director of Langley.
