Bryan Sivak is leaving the Department of Health and Human Services as chief technology officer, Federal News Radio reported Monday.

HHS Secretary Sylvia Burwell told the department’s staff in an email that Sivak will depart HHS at the end of April, Jason Miller reports.

“Since joining us in 2012, Bryan has been a force for promoting innovation across the department, designing and deploying initiatives that improve the performance of the department for those we serve, and for our employees,” Burwell said.

Sivak developed the HHS’ IDEA Lab with the goal of eliminating the red tape facing government agencies when they try to put innovation forward, according to the report.

“The HHS IDEA Lab has built an ‘investment pipeline’ through the HHS Ignite Accelerator and Ventures Fund which has provided tools, resources and training to department employees to experiment with groundbreaking ideas,” Burwell wrote in the email.

Sivak also initiated the HHS’ Buyers Club, which aims to introduce new companies to the federal marketplace to innovate, Miller reports.

“And through the HHS Buyers Club, Bryan has revamped the departmental approach to technology procurements and implementations,” Burwell said.

Sivak founded the software company InQuira before he joined HHS in June 2012, Federal News Radio reports.
